LA Gift Show Finds

After the Atlanta Gift show I was concerned the LA Gift show the next week would be disappointing afterall, the Atlanta show was four buildings of 12 stories each of endless treasures!
But after attending the LA show for five years I know the vendors with the amazingly fabulous jewlery! And sure enough they didn't disappoint me...
West coast trends were a bit more exaggerated than the south...
  • Wider cuffs than you can imagine! Yes, this is a cuff bracelet, though it looks like gilded amour with crystals (I didn't buy this one)
  • Hot Pink and all the shades of pink were every where and flowered pieces. It will be a very feminine spring.
  • I did buy these. Coral and lemon quartz 1.5 inch wide cuffs. $75 each.
You know where to find us... look for a web sale coming soon.

2010 Spring Fashion Trends from Atlanta Gift Show

What's hot for spring from Atlanta, the largest gift show in the country?

Huge bracelets! In all fun inexpensive metals, copper, brass and pewter. ($75)

Other new looks for spring:
  • Gray, anything in pewter tones.
  • Whimsical pieces of huge faux pearls, chains and rhinestones.
  • Small picture framed sayings, initals and fun pictures to be attached to keychains, ballchain necklaces and bracelets.($15)

This  was my first trip to the Atlanta gift show and it was truly amazing! Everyone seemed shocked that there was such a huge turnout, not only new vendors but tons of wholesale buyers from all over the world. And everyone was buying! It was such a shot in the arm for the economic slump.

My novice impressions were as follow:
1. We have become global comsumers. Silver from Bali, pearls from China, gemstones from Brazil, and funky, bizarre feather and shell jewlery from Fance (I bought a bunch of these of course)
2. Many of the vendors were small family owned businesses, not big corporations. So I met some wonderful innovative people. Call me if you want to hear some great stories!
3. This show is huge! They had everything from life-like Halloween monsters to giant handblown glass chandeliers to a hundred strand pearl necklace.
4. My mink and leather vest was perfect for the sub-zero weather!

Designs by Dolores...Signature Jewelry that Reflects your Radiant Spirit

Eight years ago I never dreamed I would be designing jewelry!

And still, sometimes I'm a bit hesitant to tell customers in my shop that the piece they are considering I made.

I think we all feel kinda shy about our creations. But, since my designs have been selling so well and I'm getting such positive feedback, I've decided to go public and acknowledge my craft.

When I travel, buying jewelry for the shop I'm always attracted to the icons, pendants and gemstone beads of the places I visit. So gradually I started putting them together and after much trial and error and frustration I began to have positive results! The entire collection is on my website: http://www.dforsythepearls.com/

These turquoise beads
are from Turkey, the silver beads from
Thailand and the pendant from Nepal!

Turquoise is said to open all chakras, allowing the stone’s powers of love and communication to flow through the entire being. However, healers associate it primarily with the Throat or 5th chakra. Therefore, wearing this necklace will help you communicate better!

These faceted Rulated Quartz were from a necklace I bought and disassembled. the triple coated 22k gold bead in the center is a hand-carved dragon from Tibet. It takes a master carver a week to carve one bead.

Rulated Quartz has the power to regenerate the body’s tissues, bolster the immune system, and slow the advancement of aging diseases... so wearing this necklace will keep you young!

I always thought Blue Topaz was blue, well it is and it's also this very delicate crystal color! I fell in love with these faceted stones in the Night Market in Chiangmai Thailand. And I found the oxidized pendant and clasp to match at the silver market. The hollow rectangle silver bead between the stones gives this piece a very contemporary look.

Blue topaz specifically promotes artistic inspiration, strengthening the thyroid gland and enhancing the metabolism. It is known to commonly be used for weightloss.

So instead of dieting wear Blue Topaz jewelry!

OK, that should be enough to entice you to my website.Click here to go directly to  http://www.dforsythepearls.com/

Your comments and feedback are most welcome!

Blessings for my golden Elephant God

I bought a golden Elephant God from this beautiful Thai woman on the street in Bangkok. I just loved how glittery it was. I didn't realize it would come with a blessing. Not only did she pray over it she sprinkled yellow flower petals over it as she gave him a blessing. She also filled my purse with petals.

Everything is blooming here. It's hot, humid and rains frequently, so go figure-the city is in bloom! They've even attached ferns to the sides of the trees which are thriving on every street.

Gekkos are everywhere. This one was above us in the resturant. They are so delicate and surreal. I've seen them in our bathroom, the massage house... mostly indoors. Good for mosquito control!

Ok, so this piece is not for everyone, but it's my pick for today's favorite. This picture doesn't really give it justice. It's all gemstones and lays flat. It looks really Egyptian to me. $195. If you love it as much as I do, (there is only one) call Sue at the shop today. Toll free 877-435-6444 or 619-435-9211. Or visit our website to check out the entire collection. http://www.dforsythepearls.com/.

More Thai culture, architecture and of course...jewelry!

The peacefulness of the monks make every job look like a meditation...even sweeping the streets. They come out very early each morning for the people to give them food. It's a blessing for both the giver and receiver.

All that glitters isn't gold, but it sure looks like it when the afternoon sun makes these temples sparkle! Wouldn't you love to wake up and see this beautiful monument?
We had dinner at Harmonique, this lovely woman's resturant in Bangkok. It was one of the best Thai resturants we've eaten at. And the service was amazing. The entire meal, including gin&tonic and all we could eat was $30!

It may be difficult to see the details of this amazing necklace I bought today, but it is truly one of a kind. It's made of blue agate, carnelian and black onyx. If you want it, call Sue at the shop today! $200. Phone# 619-435-9211 or toll free 877-435-6444. We are beginning to update our website with all the new purchases so check it out http://www.dforsythepearls.com/

Unforgetable experiences, great finds

Least we forget there is a cultural difference, and of course a language barrier! Funny story: We stopped at this cafe for something cold to drink, it was a very hot muggy evening. We asked the waitress to make iced tea from English Breakfast tea.  She nodded agreement and repeated the order. We waited so long we began to wonder if they were growing the tea leaves. Suddenly the waitress appeared with a "full english breakfast"...fried eggs, bacon, toast and grilled tomatoes!

I bought this amazing Hill Tribe jacket on the street. Handmade with incredible details both back and front. It was expensive... $60!!! It is not for sale

Cooking breakfast at home will never be the same. Each morning we were greeted by this lovely smiling woman. She knew we liked our coffee hot and strong. She always brought me a beautifully ripe mango with homemade yogurt. The cook prepared Allan perfect 4 minute eggs. And fresh squeezed watermellon juice... all included in the cost of the hotel room!

I know you're thinking... Not more rings! But, yes I couldn't resist this one. It is very contempory, light weight and looks great. I bought 6 pieces, $75. I sent it to Sue at the shop yesterday. Sooo, the good sizes go fast call her today toll free 877-435-6444. Or check out our entire collection at http://www.dforsythpearls.com/ or drop by the shop at 1136 Loma Ave. ste 203, Coronado, Ca.
